About Thred
Said to have originated about 200 years ago from body painting, the Kuna Indians of the San Blas Islands in Panama developed the mola, a textile artwork of embroidery and appliqué that depicts tropical flora and fauna and ease of island living in the tropics. French missionaries in Panama imported fine French cotton poplins for the Kunas to cover their bare bodies. Victorian propriety aside, the Kunas maintain some of the last and most beautifully crafted remaining indigenous textile art forms in the world.
Thred, founded by two sisters-in-law, Macy Kingsbury De la Guardia and Holli Frenden Kingsbury feature the craftsmanship of the Kuna Indians. Each pillow blends the subtlety of design and color of nature and the tropics. A portion of each sale goes to a foundation that Holli and Macy began to sustain the culture, artwork and traditional lifestyle of the Kuna Indians.
We are pleased to represent Thred. Pillows are handmade upon order and considered custom. Custom orders are charged upon placement of order. Lead time is 6-8 weeks, but please check in with us if you are interested in something particular with Thred. Though they pad themselves by saying 6-8 weeks on the pillows, many are in stock and available for immediate shipment.
